Becoming a Chapuller
Preserving a moment in history and hoping for a better future
Our ongoing project is a metaverse exhibition and open-end NFT project for 10th year of Gezi movement. The first placement of "Everyday I am Chapulling" art work exhibited at ETH Denver Web3 conference in February and second is placed in front of the NYC public Library in Manhattan during NFT.NYC in April 2023.
In 2013 a group of people met at Gezi Park in Istanbul to protect the trees from demolition at the hands of the government. The disproportionate use of power on them sparked a movement and led a whole nation tired of oppression to re-appropriate the word Çapulcu (originally meaning looters) to identify themselves as and to view Gezi not only as a park but also as a symbol for equality and resistance. Gezi is timeless and forever relevant.
